  • Chapter 5 Echoes of the Enigmatic Facility

    July 18th, 2023

With newfound determination and a touch of trepidation, we embarked on our journey to the enigmatic facility in the heart of the secluded forest. The whispers of hidden powers and suppressed voices beckoned us forward, as if the walls themselves yearned for our arrival. We stepped through its doors, greeted by a familiar face.

Dr. Lies stood there, her eyes filled with a mixture of concern and hope. “I knew you would come,” she said, her voice filled with a quiet resolve. “You both carry a burden, but together, you can find the answers you seek.”

Gabriel’s eyes met mine, a silent reassurance passing between us. The voices, once tumultuous and overpowering, now lingered in the background, their presence less daunting. Dr. Lies led us deeper into the facility, guiding us through corridors adorned with ancient symbols and mysterious artifacts.

In a dimly lit room, she prepared a ritual, an intricate dance of words and gestures aimed at unearthing the truth within us. As she chanted softly, her voice resonating with ancient power, a warm glow enveloped the room. I closed my eyes, surrendering myself to the moment.

A surge of energy coursed through me, intertwining with the darkness that had plagued me for so long. I could feel the voices within me shifting, no longer menacing but seeking solace. Dr. Lies reached out, her hand touching mine, and in that touch, a connection formed—a shared understanding of the struggle we faced.

“I cannot remove the voices entirely,” Dr. Lies explained, her voice gentle yet firm. “They are a part of you, intertwined with your essence. But I can help you learn to coexist with them, to find harmony within.”

Her words resonated deeply within me, and I felt a newfound sense of acceptance. The voices, once feared and fought against, were now viewed through a different lens—a part of me that could be harnessed and understood.

Days turned into weeks, and weeks into months as we delved deeper into our journey of self-discovery. Dr. Lies guided us with unwavering dedication, teaching us to channel the voices’ power into something constructive. Gabriel’s proficiency in fixing cars became a testament to his newfound control, while my creativity found an outlet in writing, the voices becoming a wellspring of inspiration rather than a hindrance.

We connected with others who shared similar struggles, forming a community of individuals bonded by the unique challenges we faced. Together, we learned to navigate the intricacies of our inner worlds, offering support and understanding to one another. The facility became a haven, a sanctuary where the suppressed voices could find solace and expression.

And so, our journey continued, intertwined with the voices that once tormented us. We faced challenges, setbacks, and moments of doubt, but through it all, we held onto the belief that we could forge our own path, no longer defined solely by the darkness that resided within.

In the heart of that secluded forest, hidden from prying eyes, we discovered not just liberation from our tormenting voices, but a newfound sense of purpose and unity. The enigmatic facility stood as a beacon of hope, its walls echoing with the whispers of triumph and resilience.

And as Gabriel, Kevin, and I ventured forth, hand in hand, we embraced the unknown, armed with the knowledge that within the depths of darkness, the brightest light can emerge. Together, we were determined to create a future where the voices within us could sing in harmony, a testament to the enduring strength of the human spirit.

  • Chapter 4 Confronting the Darkness

    July 13th, 2023

In the heart of a secluded forest, hidden from prying eyes, the enigmatic facility stood as a beacon of hope for Gabriel’s journey. Its walls whispered secrets of suppressed voices and hidden powers. Through their expertise, the staff had guided Gabriel on the path to self-discovery. Now, it was time for Caitlin to seek liberation from her tormenting Voice.

“I don’t remember how I got there. My head was in pain, and then I blacked out until I stood before the building,” Gabriel recalled, his face emotionless but his eyes shining. “The doctors asked countless questions, but I couldn’t answer most. Dr. Lies, an old doctor, stared at me quietly. The voices in my head ceased.”

As Gabriel reached for my hand, a chill ran through me. I glanced at Kevin, uncertain of whether to intervene, but he shook his head, indicating we should let Gabriel continue.

“Did she help you?” Kevin asked gently.

“She did, but she also kicked me out because she said I was ready,” Gabriel explained.

“Ready for what?” I asked, intrigued.

“I’m not sure. Dr. Lies taught me to suppress the voice. When the pain came, I could channel it into whatever I was doing at the time. It’s why I excel at fixing cars—I work better when the voices threaten to take over. I don’t know if any of this helps you, though,” Gabriel admitted sheepishly.

While processing his words, I wondered why I needed to go to the facility if Dr. Lies was the one who helped him. I suggested calling her for assistance, hoping to find an alternative.

“It doesn’t work that way. When I was there, I hurt people, Cat. It wasn’t intentional; the voices compelled me. Our voices have been alive for decades, using humans as hosts. Somehow, they choose those who can endure a long life. I don’t know how they enter us or how to remove them. And we’re not the only ones,” Gabriel explained sadly.

“WE ARE THE ONLY ONES! HE LIES!” The voices erupted, assaulting my mind with excruciating pain. Tears welled up as I leaned toward Gabriel, seeking comfort. Kevin’s fear-stricken expression revealed his concern.

Suddenly, Gabriel’s smile twisted into something malevolent. “Surround yourself in darkness and find a red light. Touch it,” he said in a voice not his own.

Confusion turned to shock, and Kevin’s voice broke the tense atmosphere. “What the hell is happening, Gabriel?”

Gabriel’s response was a venomous hiss, as he turned toward Kevin, his eyes pitch black with a crimson center. “You disgusting human! There are ways to inflict pain beyond the physical. Gabriel may control us, but there are things he cannot.”

Witnessing this transformation, I felt a surge of darkness coursing through me, mingled with a strange connection. Laughter escaped my lips as I jumped with twisted delight. Kevin’s fear shifted to concern as he backed away.

“No! We don’t want to go! If you’re our mate, then let’s play together!” the voices exclaimed, their pain gradually subsiding. Gabriel’s presence became a source of comfort as he reassured me and guided me through my chaotic emotions.

“Help me, please,” I pleaded desperately as darkness threatened to consume me.

Suddenly, I found myself in the midst of a scene—a young boy standing in front of a building in a forest. His cries echoed, and figures in white coats emerged. Despite his fierce resistance, they subdued him. An older woman injected him with something, and he fell into a deep slumber. A voice called out to me, leading me toward the building.

“Gabriel, try again! Don’t give up!” the woman urged. The boy laughed maniacally, proclaiming their inevitable victory. As I watched, I sensed Gabriel’s struggles and felt compelled to join him.

“She can help! It’s difficult, but she can. I’ve killed those in white coats, but it was necessary. I choose when they emerge and what they do. It is possible,” Gabriel explained, his eyes a window to both his true self and the hidden voices.

“Okay, I’ll help,” I responded, the voices now evoking feelings of happiness and a sense of belonging. “Can we play?” they asked, sheepishly seeking acceptance.

“Only if you abide by the rules,” the woman in the white coat retorted mockingly, her voice dripping with irony.

As I emerged from the depths of the dream, Kevin’s voice roused me, urging me to wake. Gabriel remained asleep, his body cold to the touch. Fear gripped me, uncertain of his state.

“I’m okay, Catlin. It takes more than a dream to take me down,” Gabriel reassured me with a smile.

“Hey, don’t forget about me! I had to sleep next to you, too. Don’t I deserve a hug and a smile?” Kevin teased, breaking the tension.

Gabriel, ever playful, responded by swiftly trapping Kevin beneath him. Laughter filled the room until a sudden grunt interrupted their play. Gabriel was flung from the bed, leaving Kevin and me stunned.

Laughing, Gabriel turned to me. “So, are we going?”

    “Yes,” I replied, smiling.

  • Chapter 3 Embracing the Unknown: A Journey to Coexistence

    July 11th, 2023

“Catlin, please try to understand. Going to the facility is crucial for your well-being,” Kevin pleaded with a mix of sadness and desperation etched on his face. Standing behind him, Gabriel’s anger simmered, evident in his piercing gaze. They were insistent on me seeking help from the facility, where Gabriel had found ways to suppress his own voice. But since I met Gabriel, The Voices seemed to have vanished. It had been a week, and they hadn’t returned.

“Kevin, I don’t see the necessity of it. The Voices have quieted down, and I feel fine,” I replied, my irritation seeping through my words. “Besides, who will manage the shop if I leave?”

Gabriel’s eyes bore into my head, his frustration palpable. Sensing his impending outburst, I turned to him and mustered the sweetest smile I could manage. “Don’t you have something to say? You’ve told me I’ve been doing great, that I almost don’t need your help anymore. Do you agree with Kevin? Do you think I need to go to this place?”

Gabriel locked his gaze with mine and slowly approached. In the past week, the intense attraction I had initially felt had subsided, but now, a wave of emotions rushed back, accompanied by a familiar fluttering in my stomach. I couldn’t help but admire the way his tight jeans hugged his muscled legs and narrow waist. A flush warmed my cheeks as my eyes longed to meet his almond-shaped gaze.

“For this week, you’ve shown incredible control. I assure you, the Voices will return,” Gabriel whispered in a low tone that drew me closer. I was transfixed by his mesmerizing eyes, yearning to agree with him without hesitation. His soft hands grazed my cheek, and his signature scent of baby powder filled my senses. In that moment, I longed to lean into his touch and kiss him tenderly.

“Catlin! Are you even paying attention?” Kevin’s sudden outburst jolted me, causing me to startle and hit my head on the kitchen cupboards. Anger surged within me, and I could feel The Voices clamoring to break free. I turned to Gabriel, gasping in pain.

“Kevin, leave now! The Voices are back, and they’ll harm you!” Gabriel shouted, his voice filled with urgency. Kevin insisted on helping, but Gabriel firmly denied him, “Not this time!”

Gabriel’s grip tightened around my neck, squeezing the air out of me. Instead of fear, a strange surge of desire coursed through my body. Our lips collided in a possessive kiss, and I couldn’t resist responding with equal fervor. It felt as though my very life depended on it.

“NO! You’re mine! You can’t be his! He isn’t your mate, don’t you understand? He’ll imprison us!” The Voices cried out in my mind, accompanied by a searing pain that wracked my body. Yet, amidst the agony, Gabriel’s presence engulfed me, his hands encouraging me to explore his body, igniting a passionate response.

“It hurts, Gabriel!” I gasped, torn between pain and passion.

“I know, but if I don’t do this, The Voices will take control. I need to have you,” he pleaded desperately. “Please, Catlin, be mine. Let us be together as we were meant to be!”

“No! She is mine, only mine!”

As the morning sun cascaded through the curtains, filling the room with a warm glow, I slowly opened my eyes. A profound sense of peace enveloped me, as if a heavy burden had lifted from my shoulders. The echoes of The Voice seemed distant, almost

     fading away.

Turning my head, I saw Gabriel lying beside me, a gentle smile gracing his lips. His mere presence brought solace and renewed hope.

“Good morning,” Gabriel whispered, his voice exuding warmth and tenderness. “How are you feeling?”

Unable to contain my own smile, a flicker of joy danced in my eyes. The darkness that had consumed me began to recede, giving way to a glimmer of light.

“I feel… different,” I confessed, my voice tinged with relief and curiosity. “The Voice, it’s quieter now. It’s as if I’ve regained more control over it.”

Gabriel nodded, his eyes filled with understanding. “That’s a positive sign. We’ve taken the first steps toward finding a way to coexist with The Voice, rather than letting it consume you. We’ll face this journey together, Caitlin.”

Reaching out, I clasped his hand, a renewed sense of trust and companionship enveloping us. It was an unspoken vow that we would confront whatever lay ahead as a united front, supporting each other unconditionally.

With newfound determination, I realized I wasn’t alone. I had allies by my side, guiding me through the challenges that awaited. The path ahead may be uncertain, but I clung to the glimmer of hope illuminating the way—a beacon leading me toward reclaiming my true self.

“Do you think we can discuss the facility now without any anger?” Gabriel asked softly, his face filled with concern. I smiled, assuring him, “Certainly, but I’d like Kevin to join us. He’s like a brother to me, and I can’t exclude him from this. If it weren’t for him, I might be dead or have caused harm to others.”

“Fair enough. I had no intention of going anywhere, and I don’t mind you being intimate with each other. You know I was never an option for you… but did it really have to happen in my place?” Kevin’s voice echoed from the front door. He tossed me one of his shirts to cover up. “I had to get a damn hotel room because you two were going at it like rabbits! At least use a room, not my damn sofa! If I had shared a wall with anyone, they would have heard everything!”

“Sorry, man. It just happened,” Gabriel attempted to explain, but Kevin interrupted, “You know what? I don’t want to know the details. Let’s just focus on the facility and what lies ahead.”

“Sure, Gabriel, please tell me more about this place. I don’t want to say yes without fully understanding what I’m getting into,” I said, eager to learn.

  • Chapter 2: Unleashed Desires

    July 6th, 2023

“I want to play! Let me out, let me out! I want to play!” The Voice screamed into my head.

“No, you are not coming out to play, today or any other day. I am not letting you out, no matter how much you yell or hurt me. Not this time,” I said in a commanding voice. I was feeling more confident since Kevin’s friend was here. I don’t know why, but it seemed like The Voice was mad but couldn’t fully control me.

“Is it trying to take over, or is it just talking?” the man asked.

“It is just talking; it seems more like a whining child’s voice than that imposing evil one I usually hear,” I responded to him.

“Well, Gabriel, I would like you to meet my friend and employee, Caitlin. Cat, this is Gabriel. He is the one I have been beginning to talk to you about. Right now, I feel like that was a mistake,” he mumbled annoyed.

I saw Gabriel look at him with a smile and hug him. He seemed to genuinely care about Kevin. I wonder if he was gay. Then he turned to look at me and gave me a smirk and a wink, and my knees went weak. Well, I guess I might find out. In a way, I was hoping I would find out soon. For some reason, this man made my insides all jelly and tingling, which I have not felt in a long time!

“I am not gay, and maybe; it depends,” he said while looking at me, making me feel so lustful.

“Ah, I didn’t know you could read my mind,” I mumbled, ashamed but intrigued on how he could do that. I guess I better watch my thoughts. I do not want him to read something that I truly did not want him to know.

“I can show you how to block me, but right now let’s just keep it this way,” he said, smirking at me with a twinkle in his eyes.

“Great, you can read her mind. Well, now I really feel like I should have kept my mouth shut,” Kevin said. “I’m going to make something to eat. If you both want anything, make it yourself,” he said offhandedly while walking to the kitchen.

“Okay,” we both answered in unison. Still staring at each other, somehow it started to get hot in here.

My mouth was dry, I couldn’t say anything, just kept staring into his eyes. I felt like I was in my own little world and wanted to stay there forever. He started walking towards me. I could appreciate those well-developed muscles. He was taller than Kevin, and damn, his jet-black hair and bronzed skin just radiated sexiness. I loved those thick lips and dark, almond-shaped eyes that I could stare at for all eternity.

“Really?” he smiled and stopped right in front of me. I could smell him, and I just felt my body quivering in arousal. I just couldn’t stop staring into those eyes, wanting to drink from his lips…

“Um… yeah… I…” I stumbled over my words, my mind becoming a block of mush as he came even closer to me. Bending down to my eye level, I stopped breathing. Looking into my eyes, I felt transfixed in time, not being able to breathe, not knowing what was going to happen. Only knowing that I loved the feelings my body was getting, and I wanted it to continue.

“It is genuinely nice to meet you, Catlin. That is an incredibly beautiful name, you know. Voice

, you stay out of her mind and lock yourself into your hole,” he commanded. He sat down close to me, and I was a bit disappointed. Not as much, though, because our legs grazed together.

“So… Catlin, when did you first hear The Voice?” he asked me. His stare intensified, and instead of arousal, I felt a deep fear, and I knew that somehow this guy was someone I needed to be really careful with.

With the magic broken, I knew we needed to get down to business. “As far as I can remember, I have always had this voice. I think it started when I was about ten,” I said softly. “I first thought it was like an imaginary friend, or you know how sometimes you just talk to yourself. But then it started talking about doing all these killings, and slowly it seemed like I actually wanted to do it. I started to get scared.”

“Did you tell anyone?” he asked.

“Anyone want a sandwich? Once I put things away, you have to make your own!” We heard Kevin from the kitchen. When we didn’t respond, we heard things being slammed. I guess he was mad, but I cannot remember why, and in a way, I did not care. I was only interested in telling my story to this stranger I just met…

“Well, at first, I would have images coming to me about a weird planet and how I was a hero, I suppose. Or some type of hero. Then slowly, those images started to become dark. It started to show me not only fighting but being captured and tortured. I hated it, I felt everything that was being done. At that point, I didn’t know if I was really there or if it was just my imagination.”

I shivered, remembering all that torture, and I closed my eyes, willing it to stop. Once I knew I was back in control, I continued my story. I noticed that Gabriel was holding my hand, and with his thumb, he was slowly moving it across my palm reassuringly. That action alone calmed me.

“I never told anyone, thinking that they would just say that I’m crazy and send me to some nut house. So, I kept everything to myself. As I grew, the imagery became more detailed, and I started imagining people of the times I was living.”

“What do you mean?” he asked softly.

“I’m serious…” Kevin started to say, walking in from the kitchen. Seeing us, he just sat on his chair and waited until I started talking again.

“Sometimes at school, I would imagine kicking this girl’s ass. She was always mean to me, so I imagined taking her to the bathroom and just kicking and punching her. But then… I started to hear a voice. It started telling me that I could play with her. I could make her suffer for days,” I fell silent because I started to see the image that The Voice showed me that time.

“It’s okay if you want to stop. I know it is hard, and the images come back. Slowly, you will be able to handle it, but in the beginning, it is hard,” Gabriel said. “Why don’t I make us some sandwiches, watch a movie, and we can continue the conversation later?” Without waiting for a reply, he got up and headed into the kitchen.

“You know, I can see you making googly eyes at him. I guess you like him?” Kevin asked me a bit exasperated. I looked at him, and for the first time, I could really see him. His eyes were light brown, and he had a handsome, chiseled face. He was taller than me but not like his friend. He had a nice brown haircut, military style

, even though he has never served. But his athletic build just was not a match for Gabriel’s sculpted body. Looking at him, I realized that I would always think of him as a brother, never anything more.

“I don’t know what you’re talking about, Kev. I don’t make any type of eyes at him; I barely know him,” I replied hurriedly. I looked nervously towards the kitchen, hoping that Gabriel does not hear that we are talking about him. “By the way, you were the one who said I should meet him. You said he could help me. Now it seems that you don’t want him here?” I said a bit defensively. Crossing my arms, I looked at him and stuck my tongue out at him.

“You’re right, I did say you should talk to him. He can help. I just was not counting on you being girly around him. I mean, what does he have that I don’t?” He said while stuffing the sandwich into his mouth. Seeing tomato juice and some onions falling out, I just smiled at him.

“You are an amazing friend, Kevin, and I’m really sorry that you want me to make those googly eyes at you, but I can’t. I cannot explain what it is about him that, yes, I am attracted to him. At the same time, in a way, it scares me because I have never felt this way towards anyone my entire life,” I whispered to him. “Also, there is something in his eyes. I feel like he almost commands me.”

“Well, all I know is that since that night you both saw each other, he has been asking me about you. He says that you have something that is pulling him towards you, and he doesn’t understand it himself,” Kevin said. “He did tell me that at one time he heard voices as well, but I don’t think that he described it like you have.”

“Are you sure then that I should be talking to him? I mean, what about if this is The Voice trying to trick me?” I asked nervously.

“I guess we will find out. I will not leave you by yourself, Catlin. I promise that I will always be by your side,” he spoke. Finishing off his sandwich, he came and sat beside me, hugging me. He looked into my eyes, and I could see that he wanted to kiss me. I felt disgusted. I saw him more as a brother than anything else. How can I tell him that without hurting him?

“Here you go, Catlin. I hope you like a simple sandwich. I forgot to ask you how you like it made,” Gabriel said while handing me a plate with a sandwich that looked like it should be in a restaurant instead of here. “I hope you like it.” He gave me a small smile and sat where Kevin had been sitting. He didn’t even look at Kevin or seem to be annoyed that Kevin was beside me. In a way, that annoyed and irritated me. I looked at him dumbfounded, and he just stared at me with that smile and started eating his sandwich.

“So, what will we do after eating?” Kevin said.

We all just looked at each other and replied at once, “Don’t know.”

“Well, that was a shitty movie,” Kevin said, grabbing his beer and taking a sip. We all were sitting on the sofa sipping on our beers and relaxing, trying not to talk about the elephant in the room. I knew eventually we would have to keep talking about it. I was just relieved that The Voice had kept quiet for this long.

“Hey, how about we go for a walk?” Kevin suggested.

“No,” Gabriel and I said in unison.

    “Okay

, so what do you guys want to do?” Kevin replied.

“I think maybe we should keep watching another movie,” I said. I found a cheesy one and put it on before either of them could say no. I felt Gabriel watching me, and my butterflies came back. It seemed like he wanted to talk, but at the same time, he just sat there staring at me.

Kevin sat in between us, so there was no chance of us being close again. I can say that I missed feeling his body close to mine and that baby powder smell. In a way, I was happy because I didn’t really understand my feelings. How could I have any type of feelings for someone I barely knew?

Well, hello, boys! I have been looking forward to this for some time now,” The Voice said, cackling. “So, how are we going to do this? I know I promised Gabriel to suck his eyes out. Kevin, I think I will just go nice and slow on you. I know you care so much about Caitlin; do not worry, I will be merciful. I will numb you for a while. After that, the shock will take over, and you really will not feel a thing.”

Kevin and Gabriel just sat there, looking at the body of Caitlin, but knowing that the Voice had taken over her. They knew that somehow, they had to make sure this evil monster inside Caitlin’s mind would not go outside and kill an innocent.

“You aren’t going to do anything,” came Gabriel’s commanding voice, while he grabbed Kevin and moved him from The Voice’s grasp. “You will sit there and not harm anyone.”

“Really? You feel so cocky, Gabriel. Please tell me. Who do you think you are? What makes you think I will listen to you? See, you are just human garbage; you are my toy to do with whatever I please. I do not have to listen to you or to Kevin. If I so choose, I could snap your necks right now, and you both would not have a clue what happened.”

“No, that’s what you think, Voice. See, I know exactly how you are. You can be killed; you can be taken out of Caitlin’s mind. See, you truly do not know what I am or what I am capable of. I can and will command you!” Gabriel threatened. Kevin just stood in shock, not knowing what to do. All he knew is that somehow, he was supposed to help Gabriel keep this Voice in check.

“You know, Voice, I don’t believe you will do anything to us. You know if you hurt us, Caitlin will destroy you or destroy herself in the process. She will never allow you to keep hurting innocent people,” Kevin said bravely. Sweat dripping off his forehead, not knowing if he had counted minutes, just knowing he wanted to help.

“Could you please SHUT UP!” The Voice and Gabriel shouted in unison. They both looked at each other, and the Voice smiled at Gabriel. The Voice leaned into Gabriel, smelled him, and slowly flicked his tongue, tasting a bit of his flesh.

“Um… why do you taste so tantalizing…? You do know me, but how? Tell me how, so I can enjoy you more. I will do you last. Would you like me to bite you? I would love to taste your fear,” chuckling softly, Gabriel went ahead and licked Caitlin’s cheek. He slowly took pressure off her neck so she could breathe and then tightened it a little bit, while looking at her dark brown eyes pooled in fear and lust… he stared at her while moving slowly and gently nibbled on her bottom lip.

“What are you doing? Are you

nuts? Let her go, you’re going to kill her!” Kevin started to grab Gabriel’s arm to get him to let Caitlin go. “Gabriel, please, you’re going to kill her. Please stop,” he pleaded with him.

Gabriel slowly turned and looked at Kevin, “Do you mind, human? Gabriel is not here right now. I am her mate; I am having a moment with my mate! You might be in love with her, but she does not belong to you! She belongs to me!” Gabriel whispered angrily.

Taken aback, Kevin looked at him in fear, not knowing what to do but somehow knowing he was not in danger with him. He sat down in front of Gabriel, looking hopelessly at Caitlin. “Just don’t hurt her, please. I love her; she doesn’t even know it. Please,” he implored him.

“We won’t hurt her. You are a good friend, Kevin. Not only did you help Gabriel when he needed it, but you have also kept her safe. We have been looking for her for such a long time.”

“Is that Voice part of your mate too? Or is the mate the Voice, and it happens to be inside of Cat?” he asked.

“She is our destined mate; The Voice is part of her. One cannot live without the other. Her lineage goes far back to our existence. Once, we were the leaders of our planet. We lived in peace with all creatures. Then we got cursed…” Gabriel had a wistful face recounting their story.

Caitlin started to murmur, and both Kevin and Gabriel turned to stare at her.

“You are not my mate! I do not have one; I am the one and only to exist! What are you talking about, human?” The Voice murmured questioningly.

“You may not remember, but you will. In time, now let Caitlin go and go back to the hole you need to be in. I want to talk to her,” Gabriel commanded The Voice.

Slowly, Caitlin’s body started relaxing, and Gabriel slowly laid her down. He motioned for Kevin to follow him. With one last look at Caitlin, Kevin followed him into the kitchen.

“So, if you are the same thing as Caitlin, how did you guys come to Earth?” Kevin asked.

“Haha!” Gabriel laughed hard. “No, Kevin, we have always been part of Earth. This is our planet; we have always been here. What I mean is that before kings and queens were established, we ruled all. Then came a curse or change, and everyone just scattered.” Gabriel said. “I hope you don’t mind, but I’m going to make something to eat.”

“So, you have always been here, but at the same time, somehow you got scattered? I just don’t understand,” Kevin told him. “How can anything coexist in a human’s head but then at the same time live and think differently?”

“It is a lot to process, and I will explain. Right now, we need to get Caitlin to a safe place for her to regain control. This Voice has a taste for blood, and we need to train Caitlin to control those feelings. In the end, even though she is not a willing participant, there is a part of her that is enjoying the killings,” Gabriel sighed, a look of excitement when he found the pasta.

  • Chapter 1: The Voice Unleashed

    July 4th, 2023

The moonlight of the full moon shines brightly, casting a gleaming shine on the blood that is splattered all over the room. The bed holds two people, one sleeping and the other dead. The woman stirs restlessly, moaning as she slowly wakes up. Blood splatters on the floor and smears on her body as she sits up and screams, “NO!”

Confused, she looks around, struggling to recognize her surroundings. Blinking slowly in horror, she finally realizes where she is.

“No!” I whispered in shock, my body trembling with fear, cold, and shock. This couldn’t be happening; it must be just a dream, I kept thinking to myself, unwilling to accept the reality. “Please, I didn’t want to. Why did you make me do this?”

“I told you, it’s my time to play. I chose you because you are mine. I control what you do and how you do it. You enjoyed it, didn’t you? I felt your pleasure when you slit his throat. Ha Ha! We are going to have so much fun! We’re not done yet. Let’s keep going; he’s strong and will give us a few more hours.”

“Please, Cat, please stop. Why?” came the mangled, cursed voice of the body beside me. I saw the confusion and fear in his eyes. Parts of his skin were missing from his face, and his scalp was exposed on top of his head. “Please… help,” he barely managed to whisper. His body was covered in cuts along his neck, arms, chest, and legs. His legs seemed to disappear into the puddle of blood on the bed.

“I’m so sorry, Peter. I didn’t want to. I’m so sorry…” I whispered to him, tears streaming down my face. I felt myself shivering and then the images flooded my mind. I saw myself caressing him, kissing him, and slowly tying him up. I saw his smile turn into horror when I took out the switchblade he had given me for my birthday. I witnessed the gruesome acts as I slowly cut him and cackled when he screamed in terror. I saw the lust and eagerness on my face as I peeled his skin from his stomach, while he withered underneath me, begging me to stop.

I shook myself, trying to dispel the horrifying images of what I had done. I quickly got out of bed and looked around, realizing we were in an unfamiliar bedroom. “Oohh,” I heard a low moan nearby. I stood frozen, not knowing what to do. “Oohh, please,” the voice said again. Gathering my courage, I followed the sound into the bathroom. As I turned on the lights, I couldn’t believe what I saw. Blood was smeared on the walls and mirrors, and the floor was a mixture of water and blood. I heard running water and feared what awaited me in the tub. “Please, help me,” came a slurred whisper. Slowly inching my way toward the bathroom, I looked into the tub and saw something unimaginable.

“Nice work! I love how you only peeled half of the face, leaving the cheek muscle exposed. I didn’t think you had it in you, Cat! The throat looks great, but why didn’t you peel the whole neck? And look at those hands! You’re amazing!” The Voice mocked and laughed.

“STOP IT! I DON’T WANT TO HEAR YOU!” I screamed at The Voice. “This wasn’t me! I couldn’t have done this,” I whispered to myself in shock.

“Please, help,” said the body in the tub.

“I’m so sorry, I am so sorry,”

I kept repeating to him, not knowing what else to say. The peeled hand started to move and reached out to me. I stepped back in fear and slipped on the wet floor. Scrambling to get up, I ran into the bedroom, avoiding looking at the horror on the bed, and made my way to the living room. Frantically searching for my phone, I couldn’t remember where I had put it. All the while, The Voice cackled in my head, expressing pride in me and how I was improving at what I was doing.

“What??” I stopped in shock. “What do you mean?” I asked, fear gripping me, not really wanting to know the truth.

“Come on, Cat. How could you forget our first time? We had so much fun! Remember the librarian? That scrawny, nerdy kid who kept following you around, asking if you needed help? The one who told you he had a crush on you and wanted to take you out on a date? You can’t say you don’t remember; you gave him his first and last kiss! Let me show you what you did, my sweet, sweet Catrina,” The Voice said smugly.

Laughing with glee, I felt my head splitting, and everything faded except for the image of the nerdy scrawny kid. His baby blue eyes framed by thick brown eyeglasses, his dirty blond hair, and that nervous smile looking up at me hopefully. He must have been at least 15 years old. I remembered him. He worked as a volunteer in the library, reading to preschoolers as part of a school program because he wanted to be a counselor one day. I told him I couldn’t go out with him because not only was it illegal for me, but I also had a boyfriend.

“Yeah, you lied to the poor kid. How mean of you. That crestfallen face was such a sweet thing to watch. You just destroyed his confidence. At least now he doesn’t have to worry about girls. Lol,” The Voice taunted.

As I watched the events of that day unfold in my mind, I didn’t realize I was still holding my phone, and the lights had been turned on. I quickly looked around, searching for any signs of intrusion, but no one was there. My phone displayed a name, and I sent a text to 911, providing them with the address where I was.

“Nooo! Why do you have to spoil our fun? I don’t want him here. If he comes, he will be MINE!” The Voice screamed in anger, its anger turning into pain. My head throbbed as if a hammer were being slammed into it.

“I don’t care! You’re not going to hurt him. I won’t let you! You might have control over me sometimes, but not all the time. Now leave me alone! You’re not welcome, and don’t you dare put images in my head again! YOU DO NOT CONTROL ME!” I screamed, exhausted, waiting for a reply. It seemed that, at least for now, I had managed to make The Voice retreat inside my head.

I closed my eyes and breathed a sigh of relief. Feeling my phone vibrate, I smiled. At least he’s coming. As always, he’s the one I can always count on. I heard a splash and realized there was someone still alive. I moved around the place, searching for a first aid kit. I knew I shouldn’t, but I couldn’t leave them there to die. Let’s see if all that reading has paid off. I found clean sheets and a bucket, filling it with ice and cold water. I soaked a clean sheet and used it to tend to the wounds.

Meanwhile, I slowly moved the body in the tub to drain the water, trying my best to avoid looking at it, but unable to resist. I kept whispering, “I’m sorry, so sorry,” not knowing what else to say. I ripped the soaked sheet into pieces and started wrapping them around the exposed muscles. It seemed that The Voice hadn’t gone that far, but enough to cause pain and immobility.

Hearing a knock on the door, I looked through the peephole. Sighing in relief, I opened the door and immediately jumped into his arms, giving him a bear hug. Crying uncontrollably, he closed the door and sat on the sofa with me, holding me tightly. Just having him there somehow made me feel like it couldn’t get any worse.

“Catrina, hey, we need to talk,” he whispered slowly, caressing my back. “Hey, come on. I know it happened again, but it’s okay. I’m here now.”

He slowly released me and guided me to sit beside him. By this time, I had stopped crying and just sat there numb, not knowing what to say. I looked into his eyes and closed my eyes, taking a deep breath, preparing myself for whatever would happen next.

“Just tell me where it is, and I’ll take care of it,” he whispered.

“In the bedroom and bathroom. Um… The one in the bathroom is still alive… I’m so…” I managed to say before he rushed into the bedroom and then the bathroom. I closed my eyes, waiting for a scream or some kind of outcry. But there was only silence and murmuring. “Kev…” I whispered, but he couldn’t hear me.

“Have you called 911 yet?” he asked.

    “No.”

“Call this number, give them the address now,” he commanded and went back into the bedroom.

Watching him walk into the bedroom and close the door filled me with fear. I did as he told me, calling the number and providing them with the address. They didn’t ask any questions, only stating that they would be there in 10 minutes. My body trembled, fearing what would happen next. He emerged from the bedroom and gave me instructions to cut more sheets and put them in a bucket, changing the water in the process. I followed his every instruction, finishing just as there was a knock on the door. He opened the door to three men with bags and a stretcher, and they walked past me, one of them taking the bucket from my hand. I looked into his eyes and felt a sense of falling into a black hole. Just like that, he was gone, and I was left standing there alone.

I don’t remember everything that happened next because I was so tired. I fell asleep on the sofa. I knew they had taken the bodies, and I felt myself being picked up. It wasn’t Kevin; it was the man with the dark eyes. He held me gently and placed me in the car. My body turned toward him, and I snuggled closer. He smelled like baby powder, and I felt safe, but at the same time, there were butterflies in my stomach. Unsure of what that meant, I just knew that I could relax and welcome the darkness that signaled sleep.

Sitting at Kevin’s place a few days later, I felt nervous. We hadn’t talked about the events involving the two people, and I reluctantly agreed to come over after he bombarded me with voicemails. “Cat, we need to talk. You can’t just stay here and be silent,” Kevin said softly, looking at me, waiting for a response. I had none to give him; I could only stare into his eyes and silently cry.

I wished I could tell him what happened that night, but I couldn’t remember it myself. The images I had seen filled me with shock. I didn’t want to believe it had happened; maybe it was just a nightmare.

“I need you to listen to me, okay? I have a friend I want you to talk to. He knows a little bit about what you’re going through…”

“WHAT? What do you mean? I told you not to tell anyone!” I screamed at him, unable to believe he had shared my secret with a stranger. I felt betrayed; I had trusted him.

“It’s okay, I promise. He said he could help. I trust him. I’ve known this guy for a long time, Cat,” he reassured me. “He was one of the guys who helped that night.”

“Fine, I’ll meet him,” I reluctantly agreed. The guy already knew what had happened; he had witnessed the aftermath. How much worse could it be?

“Well, well, well. Kevin thinks he can come in and be your knight in shining armor… The joke’s on him. He has no clue what I am and what I can do. He won’t save you; no one can. You understand me? NO ONE!” The Voice suddenly jumped into my head. I shed tears and shook my head, desperate for The Voice to stop.

“Please, Kevin, I don’t think it’s a good idea. The Voice says he will make you watch while we kill your friend,” I whispered to him. I hugged him tightly. Here was a man I had leaned on, and now he was willingly offering his help. I had no clue why he would do that. Now his friend’s life was at risk, and maybe even his own. I didn’t know what to say to him, so I just sat there, trembling in despair.

“Oh, don’t get too upset, Cat. I know how we can cheer you up. Let me out, and let’s go have some fun! That cashier, she looked so yummy. Those beautiful green eyes—I just want to suck them out of her almond-shaped eyes. Please, oh please, let me out and play!” The Voice taunted.

“No! Get out of my head, please!” I begged, starting to hit my head with my own fist. “Stop it! Stop it! Get out of my head. No, I won’t let you out to play. I won’t let you hurt her! DO YOU HEAR ME? I WON’T LET YOU HURT HER!” I screamed at the top of my lungs.

Startled, Kevin jumped off the sofa, looking at me with fear. “What’s wrong?” he yelled at me. Seeing me hit myself and ignoring him, he picked me up and put me on his lap, holding my hands to stop me from hurting myself. I went limp and started crying. I couldn’t articulate what The Voice had said to me.

“Honey, please calm down. I’ll make you some tea. Do you want me to make you some tea?” he asked, trying to comfort me.

“Yes, please, but please don’t leave me,” I whispered, not knowing why I wanted him to keep holding me. Maybe because I felt safe, and because I could sense The Voice seething with anger. In Kevin’s arms, I knew The Voice couldn’t break through. So I wanted to stay in his arms as long as possible.

Suddenly, there was a knock on the door, and the safe feeling vanished.

“He will never, NEVER be able to protect you! I am the ONLY one who will ALWAYS be there. Don’t think you have any heroes in your life because you don’t! No one can save you, do you understand me? NO ONE!” The Voice cackled in my head like a hammer slamming into glass. I felt my brain shattering into a million pieces, while my body convulsed in pain.

“Get her in the tub NOW!” I heard a distant shout. I felt hands picking me up from Kevin’s arms and plunging my body into something cold. “Come on, wake up! WAKE UP!” I heard a commanding male voice. His hands around my waist kept dunking me into the freezing water. Although I could hear and feel him, I couldn’t respond or open my eyes. My body was still in pain, still convulsing. It felt as though I wasn’t in my own body anymore.

“I’ll call an ambulance. She needs help!” I heard Kevin yell at the man.

“No! They can’t do anything. She needs to come out of this herself. I know what I’m doing,” the man said. I felt him lean closer to me and whisper, “You will let her go now. I won’t let you hurt her. You can tell her your lies, but I am here now. LET HER GO NOW! I COMMAND YOU!”

“You can’t command me! Who do you think you are? No one owns me but her! She is mine! She is MINE!” The Voice screamed through me at the man. At the same time, I opened my eyes, but it wasn’t me. I knew it wasn’t me. The Voice had taken over, and now I feared for my friend and his friend’s lives.

“Do you think you can command me? You despicable, rotting flesh! I am about to have some fun with you,” The Voice murmured to the man. “I love those cobalt dark eyes you have. Tell me, would you mind if I lick them and then suck them out of your head? I think I would love hearing you scream while I slowly suck them out. Yes, you will have the luxury of feeling all the pain, no numbing at all. I want to hear your screams!” Laughing, The Voice reached for his face, but something prevented it from touching him. The man simply looked straight at me and slowly smiled. I felt the convulsions subsiding, replaced by a sense of unease. The Voice paused, transfixed, and started to doubt itself.

For the first time, I felt like The Voice… yes… felt fear!

“You will leave her alone now. Go back to that little hole of blackness that you call your life. I promise you, you don’t own her. You won’t ruin her,” the man whispered back. “Please, try to lick my eyeballs. Try to get close, and see how I will slowly make your little hole of blackness into nothingness.”

The man slowly inched closer to my face and I could feel the The Voice slowly retreating. Slowly giving me back control. I could not think of nothing else because then my body just felt a shock of ice-cold water and I started shivering.

The man smiled at me “Hi there, welcome back.” He said conversationally and slowly got up with me. Not realizing that I was soaking wet, and, in his arms, I smiled sheepishly at him. His dark eyes hypnotizing me and those damn butterflies coming back into my stomach.

“Here’s a towel Cat.” Kevin said to me irritated.

The man put me down slowly keeping me close to his body making me feel sparks. Forgetting the towels, forgetting about Kevin even The Voice I wanted nothing else but to keep drowning myself into those dark eyes of this mysterious man.

“Dammit, both of you dry off now or I’ll fucking kick your asses. Remember this is my place!” Kevin finally yelled and threw the towels at us walking away angrily.
